There are a number of skills required to become a scorer in cricket and we are here to help you get to grips with all of them from the very basics, to advanced techniques. Below is an overview of the courses currently available and how they all fit together.
The ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥ Scoring Pathway offers bespoke training to help prepare scorers for the challenges they may face, when scoring in different formats of our game. Please read below the training offered by the ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥ and the ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥ ACO.
Training
The ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥ Scoring Pathway offers bespoke training to help prepare scorers for the challenges they may face, when scoring in different formats of our game. Please read below the training offered by the ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥ and the ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥ ACO:
´ºÃÎÖ±²¥ Scoring Course
This is the first step for all new scorers to undertake, giving them the base knowledge of book and electronic scoring (via ) to accurately score a game of cricket in the Recreational Game.
Scoring Techniques
This session introduces scorers to regular, repeatable scoring routines to ensure accuracy when scoring, how the umpiring and scoring teams work together for the smooth running of the game, key Laws of Cricket and how to accurately record penalty runs.
Linear Scoring
This session introduces scorers to Linear Scoring, explains the theory behind it, why a scorer might choose to Linear Score a match and teaches the method by putting the skills into practise to improve the scorer’s competence and confidence.
Duckworth-Lewis Stern (DLS)
This session introduces scorers to the theory behind DLS, the theory to manually calculate DLS target scores, the terminology involved and how to use the DLS calculators within PCS Pro and the Play-Cricket Scoring App.
Statistics
This session introduces scorers to the theory and relevance of certain statistics that are required of a scorer to perform during a game, understanding how to record and report on relevant interruptions both when scoring manually and electronically.
PCS Pro Scoring
This session introduces scorers to scoring cricket matches via the Play-Cricket Scorer Professional (PCS Pro) software and database, covering all key aspects from fixture creation and team selection to methodology on how to score a match and finalise the result accurately.

All the above educational sessions (except the ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥ Scoring Course) will be delivered in County, by County ACO Scoring Tutors and advertised to members of the ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥ ACO via local newsletters or other communications. These will also be made available via the ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥ website.
