Chasing defending champions Nottinghamshire's meaty total of 319, spurred on by Steven Mullaney and Ross Taylor, it soon became clear that Jennings was the only man who could deny the Outlaws victory. When he fell, wickets tumbled, and Lancashire were eventually skittled for 309 in the face of some excellent death bowling from Harry Gurney.

THE HAND OF GODLEMAN
The highest team and individual totals came at Edgbaston where Derbyshire made hay in Birmingham. They were led by the skipper Billy Godleman, who smashed 137 off just 116 balls, and took a particular liking to Jonathan Trott - all three of his sixes coming off the former England man. Assisted by Wayne Madsen who made a handy 58, Derbyshire compiled 357 runs which proved beyond the Bears, despite Sam Hain's century.

EOIN IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
The England ODI skipper helped himself to some more runs as he played his second match for Middlesex this fledging season. Morgan added a brisk 45 against Essex to the 76 he scored in the Championship match with Glamorgan, as he tuned up for England's first ODI, against Scotland, on June 10. But his side's total of 250 wasn't nearly enough, as Tom Westley's sparkling 134 helped Essex to their target with seven overs to spare.
