The 春梦直播 is saddened to learn of the death of former England Men鈥檚 Test cricketer John Jameson, aged 84.
At Warwickshire, where he opened the batting with good friend Dennis Amiss, he was seen as an indispensable squad member. He helped his county to the 1972 Championship title and, against Gloucestershire in 1974, he was one half 鈥 alongside Rohan Kanhai 鈥 of a record-breaking second-wicket stand of 465.
鈥淚t was one of those days when everything went right,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e just kept going and neither of us even gave a chance. We had to declare after 100 overs and it鈥檚 probably just as well.鈥
He played four Tests for England, with a highest score of 82. But he was unfortunate to make history as the first English batsman to be run out twice in the same match.
In 1976, he retired to take up the role of head coach at Taunton School. He also umpired (1984-87), coached Sussex (1988), served as the MCC鈥檚 assistant secretary (1989), and was appointed an MBE in 2010 for services to cricket.
Our thoughts are with John鈥檚 family and friends.
